Orchid Show

Gary, Vincent and I went to the Missouri Botanical Garden 2011 orchid show on Friday. There was a preview for members and we decided it might be nice to go. In addition to the orchid sale, they had an amazing display. Here are a few of my favorites.

Note: The second two photos actually were taken in the garden gift shop, so I'm not sure if they're orchids or not.

I took tons of pictures and I may add more later. These photos were taken with a Canon EOS 40D. None of them are edited.

My apologies for being a day behind on posting my photo of the day. I took this photo at the Missouri Botanical Garden orchid show preview, but I took them on a Canon EOS 40D and I didn't have a way to get the pictures off the compact flash drive. Today I got a card reader, so that shouldn't happen again. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this beautiful orchid from the show.

Duck Night

Tuesday after picking Vincent up, we headed to the park to see the ducks. I picked him up at 5 and it was already starting to get dark! Ducks and geese were cutely walking all over the frozen lake to the center, where there was a patch of water for them. Vincent and I went in to a little guardrailed section to look at them. Since the lake was ice, I didn't want him getting too close.

It turned out we were in the perfect spot. The geese came to us! They got so close we could have reached out and touched them.

While we were there, the fountain light switched on, making the scene even prettier. There were so many ducks and geese. Here are a few favorites. None of the photos are edited and it was dark. It was after all, 5 p.m.

Okay, this being a Sunday, I obviously didn't take a photo of my coworker, Paul Hackbarth. However, today is his birthday and he mentioned that he wanted to be one of my photos of the day, so I thought today would be a good day. Honestly, I didn't take one single photo today anyway, so in less than a month, I already broke my own rules. But, it was Paul who told me that... the best page designs break the rules. I'm sure that can apply to this somehow. Anyway, here, Paul checks out a camera at the Photojournalism Hall of Fame. I love how confused he looks in this picture. So hats off to the guy who has to put up with me every day at work; I know it's not always easy. Happy 27th Paul!

So I know this isn't even remotely creative or clever, but I couldn't help taking a picture of literally, the messiest car I've ever seen. G mentioned that the person was probably moving, but there were tons of cigarette packs, candy wrappers and trash in the front window, which I doubt is a result of moving. Plus, what a crappy way to pack a car. I would have taken more pictures or tried to get a better one, but I didn't want to get busted. I was in a parking lot and how wierd would it be if you came out of somewhere and saw someone taking pictures of your car?

A Day of Finishing Up...

So I started this blanket for Gary... just about 6 years ago. I started it when I first learned to crochet and it was my first project. It is really, really long, and not very wide. I did almost all of it in one Christmas vacation, then, I ran out of yarn, folded it up and it's been taking up space in the closet ever since. I've contemplated taking it all apart and making something different or finishing it and donating it to Loving Hearts, because after all, it's still warm. I couldn't bring myself to unravel all of it though.

The other day, while going through yarn, Gary asked if he could just cut it and keep it, but it had 15 rows of multicolor on one side and only 11 on the other. I at least wanted to even it out. So, I headed to Michael's and they had the exact same Red Heart multicolor yarn.

I added the last few rows to the uneven side and called it finished. G swears that he loves it because the blankets are never long enough to cover his feet. This photo was taken before I cut off the extra strings. Also, you can't see how ridiculously long it is, but I bet it's probably at least 8 feet long. Maybe someday I will be motivated to add some more, but I don't really like all the stripes, so probably not.

And, finishing that put me in the mood to finish up a few other things like this scarf, which I actually did on a Nifty Knitter months ago. If you're wondering why the strings on the end are all curly it's because I took apart another project and reused the string. They will uncurl when I wash it... I think. And I'll even out the strings then.

And finally, I finished up this cute hat for Vin's girlfriend. Really all I did was cut a few strings and make a flower. Paige makes it look pretty cute!
